Matthew 18,3 I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (NIV)
Sometimes you wonder why we should become like little children. But last night I think I got another little insight into what Jesus really means with that. My son David (5 1/2 years old) had been speaking about the baptism of the Holy Spirit to my wife and asking questions. He was at a water baptism and the person that got baptized started speaking in other tongues afterwards and got filled with the Spirit.
Because he asked to be baptized himself last summer, he wanted to know why he did not speak in tongues and what the tongue is. So he asked me during dinner time: "Daddy I want to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and also speak in tongues." How sweet! Of course I prayed with him after dinner and he invited the Holy Spirit into his life and asked for the Baptism of the Spirit and the gift of tongues.
First he thought that he now has to learn a new language. He already speaks three of them and knows the concept of learning languages. But when we told him that this is a gift and has nothing to do with learning and that the Holy Spirit would just give it to him to speak it out, he just opened his mouth and started bubbling forth in new tongues!
Hallelujah! Oh what a joy! It was so easy for him. Then he went to his sister Grace (3 1/2 years old) and shared what he had experienced and Grace wanted it too. So we prayed with her as well and after being a bit shy and speaking just softly in tongues we all praised the Lord in tongues very loudly!
It was so easy for these kids to receive the Holy Spirit and the tongues! They just believed what we said and did it. Even when my wife prayed together with the kids for a woman in the wheelchair and she did not get healed right away David told me on the phone: "We have to go pray for this woman again, so that she can walk again."
Children just believe what you tell them. Why don't you just start believing the Lord again and just act upon his word. You need healing... in his stripes you are healed... you need a miraculous provision... God will meet every need! Whatever it is... God wants to give it to you and you will enter into the Kingdom afresh and see Him move on your behalf!

Child-like faith
Dear Claude,
I had to smile quite a few times when I read this story above. As I know your children I could just about imagine before my own eyes how the story went. So cute! When I heard about David's desire and that he already speaks 3 languages, I just thought that I can learn from this example: to take what God offers us and run with it. To make a decision every day to learn and to become excellent for God. To take every opportunity to grow. Also I saw how important it is to develop our relationship with the father. The trust your son has in you is very touching. I must admit, I am not there yet, but this devotional inspired me, to continue to seek the Father and his love for me.
Thanks for this inspiring devotional.
With much love,
Suzanne
